Welcome to the website of the Bradwell Community Shop. Please have a look at the latest news below, and the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). Then send us your comments via the Feedback page. Our AimTo provide a convenient and friendly shop for local residents and visitors to Bradwell, and to make sure that the shop has a long-term future under the control of local residents. Latest News (October 2011)The shop has had an increase in takings over the summer months, a significant increase on last year. The Post Office is also growing in use. The Post Office is currently funded by Essex County Council, because it would not be financially self supporting otherwise. However, Essex CC have decided that they will not continue the funding after April 2013, which is when their original agreement runs out. So the management committee are looking into how they can keep it going after 2013, and one option is for the Parish Council to raise the funds from the Council Tax. Information about the shopThe shop is open from 7-1 and 2-5 each day Mon-Sat and 9-1 on Sunday. It is good to see the shelves full and customers coming in, buying a few things and having a bit of a gossip as well. Just what a village shop should be, except that this one is entirely financed by the local community (over £5000 was raised) and run by a small team of keen volunteers assisting a part-time paid manager. We have managed to stock even more that was expected, for example we have a lot of local produce
Plus of course the usual frozen, chilled and tinned goods. Also available are free-range Tillingham eggs, and also Bulls eggs from Bradwell (and jams/chutneys) on a Weds afternoon only, because Dave & Ruth Bull are two of our volunteers. There has been a vast amount of effort put in by a small team of volunteers, who deserve a lot of credit for the way that they have stuck to the task. Some volunteers are also coming forward, but we need more, so please respond on the Feedback form if you can help. The phone number of the shop is 01621 776274 Loans and donationsWe have received over £5000 in loans and donations earlier this year. Those who offered loans have been contacted to offer them the money back,
